Gambling in Jersey

Jersey Gambling Commission

Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands, which also include Guernsey and Alderney. Each island has its own gaming legislation and licensing regime. Jersey's three-person Gambling Commission was formed to serve as the regulator shortly after the passage of online gambling legislation in 2005.

Jersey, the one in the Channel Islands in the English Channel  is a small island nation who, in spite of its size, is looking to make a big impact in the worldwide gaming scene, following the lead of several other smaller European jurisdictions, and the Isle of Man and Guernsey in particular, who both play a pretty prominent role in online gambling and online poker in particular.

In 2008, Jersey took its first steps to licensing online gaming when it passed the Gambling (Remote Gambling Disaster Recovery) (Jersey) Regulations 2008. This legislation permits remote gambling operators to offer services from servers located in Jersey in case of an emergency.

So Jersey has been updating their gambling laws over the last few years, and have updated them several times lately, in an effort to get a piece of the offshore gambling licensing pie. The legislators here are more than keen to get involved, 스포츠토토 and now have a rather sophisticated set of laws and regulations governing gambling along with an intention to provide top rate regulation to offshore firms who may be interested in allowing Jersey to license their online gambling sites.

What is the Jersey Gambling Commission?

The Jersey Gambling Commission (JGC) is responsible for the licensing, registration and regulation of gambling. The commission is made up of a non-executive board together with three executive officers. They are responsible for all commercial and charitable gambling, with the exception of the Channel Islands Lottery, which is administered directly by the Government of Jersey.

In recent years, Jersey has seen a steady expansion in the remote gambling sector. Gambling in Jersey is regulated by modern and well-drafted legislation comprising the Gambling Law 2012, the Gambling Regulations 2012 and the Gambling 2012, such legislation broadly requires that providers of gambling services in Jersey be licenced by the Jersey Gambling Commission (JGC).
